Council Okays Address Changes For Segment Of Prosser Road

Members of the Lawrenceburg City Council have given approval to suggested address changes for properties situated along a small segment of Prosser Road.

Emergency 911 Director Johnny Cheatwood proposed the changes to members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council during their bi-monthly business meeting Thursday morning.

He explained that the situation has existed for years but emphasized that, “The longer you let a wrong go, the more problems you have.”

Cheatwood said that the properties affected are situated in the section of Prosser Road that lies directly east of U.S. Highway 43. Properties on the segment located on the west of the highway are addressed in the 100 block.

Across the highway, he said Hilltop Market is addressed #200, while the adjacent residential property is #106. The inconsistency causes considerable confusion for those unfamiliar with the area while also posing a safety issue for emergency responders.

Cheatwood suggested changing the addresses on eastern Prosser Road so that they fall within the 200 block. Although this would not completely align all addresses, he said, “At least they will flow in sequence...”

Commissioners inquired as to whether it might be more prudent to change the name of the western segment to “West Prosser Road.” Cheatwood said that this would result in address changes for around 60 different properties and businesses and would still require an additional change of address for the market.

Cheatwood told council members that the simplest solution would be to change the addresses of the properties along the eastern segment. This change, he said, would be minimally problematic, effecting only six properties.
